There are so many kids that are waiting in foster care. Most of them are good kids that are just looking for a chance to grow, learn and live a good life. Yet, there is nothing that can be done to change many of their situations. Their lives have been disrupted. They are often unstable.
This is where a foster parent can make all of the difference. When a child’s needs become the focus of somebody in their lives- they have a better chance of making decisions that reflect it. The expectation that children will be able to redirect themselves and make proper decisions without a positive adult in their circle is not fair. Without the proper training and encouragement, wisdom is not possible.
Every child deserves the chance to have a good life. They deserve the chance to discover their own possibilities and then make their decisions accordingly.
If you are interested in becoming a foster parent- there are many opportunities for you to become certified. Check in with a local Social Services Agency for class times and information. The classes often require training time, house checks and home study completion. Don’t let this intimidate you. It may look overwhelming but the process is very well laid out and there is a lot of help along the way- focus on your desire to invest in a child.
There are many opportunities for grandparents to become foster [grand] parents as well. I am not certain what the qualifications are in your area but I know that if you are in the position of grandparent age and desire to invest yourself into the life of a child in foster care- someone will help you make that happen.
Consider being a foster parent or grandparent for a child in your area. It can make all of the difference for the future. If each person who is in the position to open their homes and lives to a child did so- imagine the changes that would be made for the next generation. It give me chills just thinking about it.
